One Simple Key to Becoming a Better Writer

Simply being consistent is not enough

I am not a great writer. I might not even be a good writer. I do like to believe that I am at least a competent writer, though. This is good because according to Stephen King:

“it is impossible to make a competent writer out of a bad writer, and while is equally impossible to make a great writer out of a good one, it is possible, with lots of hard work, dedication, and timely help, to make a good writer out of a merely competent one” — On Writing

Apparently, if you are a bad writer then you should just give up; there is no hope for you. I don’t know if I agree with that per se, but for sake of time let’s just say that if you are a bad writer and wish to become a good one, then just declare yourself as competent.

I have been writing on Medium for almost a month now. I don’t think this gives me the right to hand out advice yet, but I am going to anyways. This is a concept I think we all know but tend to overlook because it is just that simple of an idea.

The Key to Writing is: Consistency
